Meet Our Dogs

Toots -

We met Toots (short for Tootsie Roll) Halloween morning 2021. The weather was abnormally freezing that day. When we were contacted about Toots they said she looked very sick, had puppies with her and was surrounded by garbage curled up in a garage. There were nine babies, five had already passed away, but we were able to save her and her remaining four babies. Toots was very malnourished and had Sarcoptic Mange making her miserably itchy with open wounds all over. Due to Sarcoptic Mange being easily transmitted, her puppies quickly showed signs as well. Thankfully they all responded to treatment and quickly began feeling relief! Within a year all her babies found loving homes, but Toots stayed. To this day she has never received an interest of adoption. She has now been in our care so long that we consider her a sanctuary resident. She spends her days lounging in her recliner chair, sunbathing and wrestling with her friends. She absolutely loves a good marrow bone and belly rubs. Toots is estimated to be 7 years old now.

Red -

Red was once a stray near a trailer park in Sumter, SC. His trash scavenging quickly upset residents who began threatening to harm him. When we first met Red he was very fearful and untrusting of human touch. He refused to be contained, taking drastic measures to escape. Once he learned we wouldn’t give up, he began to warm to us. Red spends every day watching over our home, especially our kids. He is so calm, confident, and obedient, yet protective. Red was briefly up for adoption, and had a family so in love, but during his trial he ran away, as soon as we arrived to help catch him, he happily loaded in our car to come ‘home’. Since he’s returned, he absolutely refuses to get in a vehicle again, he has made it very clear this is his home, and his dedication to us has won him a spot as a sanctuary resident. Red spends his days taking his guardian role very seriously, and has a weakness for any and all attention now.

Whitey -

Whitey came into our care in March 2022 from our county animal control. She was confiscated as part of a cruelty and neglect case along with 15 others. There were more than 20 carcasses on scene. Animals were starved and injured. Whitey had a prolapsed private area and was severely malnourished when she was first secured by animal control. The court process was two years. It took 3 surgeries to correct her prolapse, and over six months to correct her weight and gut health due to the severe parasites she had. Due to Whitey’s abuse she has a lot of triggers making her a sanctuary resident at our home. She is easily upset by new people and changing surroundings making her unpredictable. She is a mama’s girl and that’s where her friend circle ends. Some of her favorite things are swimming, wrestling stuffed animals and sunbathing but nothing beats a fresh bone from the butcher shop!

Banana -

Banana was saved from the euthanasia list at our local animal control. She was picked up for biting a community member that got too close to her puppies. She was a scared stray that had babies under their building. Her scars tell a story of surviving the streets and many attacks. Her babies have since found homes. Banana is still in her rehabbing stages, learning to trust and find her confidence. She thoroughly enjoys a good nap in the sunshine, chewing bones and a good belly rub!

Calhoun-

AKA Cal, Professor Chaos, Chatty Cathy was our largest medical case to date. We met Cal Feb 2021. He was a ‘hit and run’ in Calhoun County SC. His injuries were substantial and he immediately went into surgery. We tried to save all his legs, but after months of therapy we decided in the long run him becoming a tripod was going to be in his best interest. His original injuries were a broken front leg, fractured hip and fractured rear leg. Through everything Cal beamed with happiness and love. He has an unbelievable fighting spirit that is full of total and utter joy every day. Cal was adopted after being in our care for 3 years but returned Aug 2025 when his family had an unexpected life change. Calhoun has become a sanctuary resident since being returned. He is now approximately 6 years old. He loves spending his days sunbathing, wrestling and being a social butterfly at every possible outing he can attend. He is the life of every party and tells many stories.

Eve -

When we first saw Eve, she was a stray wandering our neighborhood.  We began leaving food by our mailbox which quickly became a daily routine. She slowly accepted pets but did not want anything to do with being contained. It took nearly a month, and as she ate, she quickly gained weight. It became obvious she was holding a little secret. A BELLY OF BABIES. We started following her to learn her whereabouts. All of a sudden, we didn’t see her for about a week. We were worried! Finally, she came back for food, and her belly was no longer big and round. She had her babies less than a mile from our home, under a shed. We quickly coordinated securing her puppies. She had 10 babies.Eve has been in our care since March 2024. She enjoys days of sunbathing, fresh bones, a good belly scratch and playing with all her friends. All of her babies except one have been adopted. Her last baby, Moofasa, is still waiting for his forever family (meet him below)!

Available for Adoption:

Moofasa -

In March 2024 Moofasa and his nine other siblings were born under a shed near our home.

We spent weeks, almost a month working on catching his mom before they were born. She was a stray wandering our neighborhood but very untrusting of people. Within a year all of his siblings successfully found families, but Moofasa still waits!

He loves kids, dogs, all the toys, swimming and especially snacks and treats! Moofasa is extremely goofy and very smart. He knows all basic commands and wiggles with pride to show them off.
